The Nelumbo (Lotus) flower has had great religious significance and many symbolic meanings since ancient civilizations. The Lotus flower grows in muddy water and rises above the surface to bloom with remarkable beauty.
At night the flower closes and sinks underwater, at dawn it rises and opens again. As the Nelumbo blossoms from the muck unstained and pure, it represents a spiritual growth and new beginnings through experiences, forgiveness and redemption.
Untouched by the impurity, the Lotus symbolizes a quest for truth and enlightenment amongst the murkiness and struggles of life. We all have the power to not only overcome extremely adverse conditions, but to flourish in them as well. Through growth and determination, we can all reach for excellence, transforming the ordinary into a thing of beauty and inspiration.

"the spirit of the best of men is spotless, like the lotus in the muddy water which does not adhere to it."
